Prof. Jiangnan Zhu

Dr. Jiangnan Zhu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong, China. Her research brings together the study of (anti-)corruption, elite politics, and public opinion in China. She has published numerous articles in leading journals, including the American Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, Public Administration Review, Governance, and the Policy Studies Journal, among others. She has also contributed book chapters to various publications. She is the author of 'Bribery as a Third Path to Power? Political Selection in China Beyond Performance and Patronage' (Cambridge University Press, 2026). She is the editor of the Journal of Chinese Political Science and serves on the editorial boards of Public Administration, the Asian Review of Political Economy, and Public Administration Review (Chinese). She also frequently serves as a reviewer for leading academic journals, major research grants, and award committees. Professor Zhu has received several awards at the University of Hong Kong, including the Gordon Tullock Prize of the Public Choice Society, the Rosie Young 90 Medal for Outstanding Young Woman Scholar, the Research Output Prize, the Social Sciences Outstanding Supervisor Award, and the E-Learning Award. She also serves as Director of the Contemporary China Studies Programme, Founding Director of the HKU-PKU PPE Dual Degree Programme in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Director of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) Programme at the University of Hong Kong. Professor Zhu holds a PhD in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Mathematical Models of Social Sciences from Northwestern University, as well as bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Economics from Peking University.
