Dr. Hong Yu

Dr. Hong Yu is a Senior Research Fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. He is the Editor of East Asian Policy, an international journal for policy research on East Asia. His research interests cover regional development in China, the Belt and Road Initiative, China’s foreign policy, the ASEAN-China Relations, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China’s state-owned enterprises, and railway sector reform. Dr. Yu’s research and review articles have appeared in many internationally peer-reviewed journals such as Cambridge Review of International Affairs; Journal of Contemporary Asia; Journal of Contemporary China; Pacific Affairs and more. His latest book 'Understanding China’s Belt and Road Initiative', was published in 2024. Dr. Yu’s academic article on the Belt and Road Initiative published with the Journal of Contemporary China, has been one of the most read and cited academic journal articles on the topic. Dr. Yu teaches various courses at the Department of Chinese Studies of the National University of Singapore. He has been interviewed as an expert on China, Southeast Asia and East Asia by various international and local media.
