  • Loan Amount for Real Estate "White List" Projects Reaches 5.6 Trillion Yuan: Xiao Yuanqi, deputy director of the State Financial Regulatory Administration, announced at a State Information Office press conference that as of January 22, loans for real estate "white list" projects had reached 5.6 trillion yuan. Xiao emphasized that the urban real estate financing coordination mechanism has established principles such as "all that should be entered should be entered," "all that should be loaned should be loaned," and "as early as possible." These guidelines ensure that all real estate projects meeting the "5+5" criteria are included in the "white list" management system. Op-ed in Chinese Media Downplays Quad Unity Amid Political Transition in the US:  A recent Op-ed in the Global Times has portrayed the recent Quad foreign ministers' meeting in Washington, held a day after Donald Trump's inauguration, as disjointed and lacking in substance, aiming to exploit perceived divisions among Quad partners. The brief joint statement, emphasizing standard commitments to a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" and regional security, was framed as indicative of confusion within the new US administration's foreign policy. By contrasting this meeting's limited output with earlier substantive Quad declarations, the op-ed suggested that the Trump administration is uncertain about continuing its predecessor's Indo-Pacific strategy. Highlighting the Quad as a geopolitical mechanism designed to counter China, the author of the article asserted that Trump's "America First" stance could lead to friction among allies as the US seeks to shift military and economic burdens onto its partners. Chinese media have regularly emphasized that the US strategy prioritizes extracting support from allies like Japan, India, and Australia while avoiding significant commitments to multilateral initiatives. This narrative seeks to highlight the Quad's challenges in maintaining cohesion under US leadership and to undermine trust within the alliance, positioning China as a stabilizing force in contrast to an allegedly declining US influence.
