ORCA's Senior Research Associate, Omkar Bhole, led a discussion on Internal Drivers of China's Economic Strategy Towards Nepal, at Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE)'s Seminal Hall in Kathmandu.

As a part of the ORCA-NIICE MoU, ORCA’s Senior Research Associate and NIICE Visiting Fellow, Omkar Bhole delivered a talk on the topic Internal Drivers of China's Economic Strategy Towards Nepal at NIICE's Seminar Hall in Kathmandu.The talk focused on motivations behind China’s economic statecraft in Nepal and its implications for China-Nepal relations.

 

During the discussion, Mr Bhole shared insights on China's expanding influence in Nepal, focusing on trade, connectivity & investments. He also noted a surge in Chinese exports to Nepal, including broadcast equipments.

The talk, along with subsequent discussions, delved into the strategic role of Tibet in facilitating China's connectivity initiatives in Nepal and analyzed their potential implications for Nepal's infrastructure development. Additionally, Omkar Bhole highlighted prospective areas for Chinese investment in Nepal, particularly in sectors like hydropower and the digital economy, which could play a strategic role in the country's economic trajectory.
