Weibo discussions on Yunnan’s “Unsupervised Children” incident: A viral video showing two unclothed children walking near a residential area in Yunnan province sparked widespread outrage on Weibo on 11 November 2025. The footage, reportedly filmed by a passerby, quickly drew millions of views and prompted online debate over child safety and parental responsibility. In response, local authorities in Yunnan sent a team to inquire into the matter, later confirming the incident and stating that the children involved were from a nearby village and had wandered off unsupervised. The notice also mentioned that relevant guardians were being counselled and community supervision measures would be strengthened to prevent recurrence. This drew sharp criticism from netizens, who condemned the parents for negligence, with many calling the child pitiful. One netizen commented that even free range parenting had its limit, as even legal punishment can't undo once harm is done to a child. Many people called for authorities to keep monitoring the parents in the future. One netizen also noted that it is the winter season in China, and parents should not leave their kids undressed, let alone letting them leave the house. Some also questioned why a child’s images were shared online in the first place, instead of reporting to authorities, violating the children’s privacy.
