INDIA WATCH

China Invites More Indian Investments, Strengthening Economic Ties: According to China Daily, China's Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, has reiterated China’s desire to invite and accommodate more Indian investments and commodities into China, fostering the importance of economic collaboration between the two nations. At a recent event in New Delhi, Xu highlighted the opportunity that both nations have when they promote operations in fields like science and technology. Alongside, he urged India to create a more favourable business environment for Chinese companies and investments,  through more direct flights and smooth streamlined visa processes for Chinese nationals visiting India., the key reason why this development is significant given the complex relationship between the two countries. According to the author, India remains concerned about opening its markets too widely to Chinese firms, given cautions over national security and further economic dependency. While India moves towards increased self-reliance under initiatives like "Make in India," it must carefully assess  benefits of Chinese investments while addressing potential vulnerabilities. The author states that for India, capitalizing on this invitation can look like enhanced access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets, but not something that can be done without prior strategic planning to avoid pre-existing trade imbalances or over-dependence on Chinese imports.
