New Energy Vehicle License Plate “Fading Trend” Sparks Debate on Weibo: A post with the hashtag #NewEnergyVehicleLicensePlatesTurnFromGreenToWhite# is going viral on Weibo after reports emerged that some vehicle owners are intentionally altering the color of their green new energy license plates to a black-and-white style. The trend became viral after bloggers shared tutorials demonstrating how to fade the green color using chemical solutions or prolonged light exposure. Authorities quickly responded, stating that such actions constitute illegal defacement of license plates under China’s Road Traffic Safety Law and may result in fines or warnings. Online reactions reflected a mix of criticism and support for legal compliance. Many users openly admitted dissatisfaction with the current design, with one stating that “the public doesn’t like the gradient green plates.” Another user stressed that personal preference cannot override regulations, commenting, “changing the color without authorization is absolutely illegal.” Some users cautioned about broader consequences, stating that “if everyone customized plates freely, the roads would become chaotic.” Several users also raised safety concerns, suggesting altered plates could affect recognition and enforcement. A few users criticized the trend itself, calling it a “dangerous use of aesthetics to cross legal red lines.” Meanwhile, others defended the existing system, emphasizing that green plates symbolize environmental benefits and should be respected.

Sina Highlights India’s Push for Sovereign AI and Regional Tech Positioning: An article in Sina discussed India’s accelerating efforts to build domestic artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and its implications for regional technology dynamics. According to the article, industry leaders such as Sunil Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Yotta Data Services, and Jay Chandan, chairman and CEO of Gorilla Technology, emphasized that India’s AI expansion is designed to complement, rather than compete with, established Southeast Asian technology hubs like Singapore and Malaysia. The article cited statements from the two CEOs, who, while speaking at the Gitex AI Asia 2026 conference, emphasized India’s vast digital ecosystem as an ideal testing ground for deploying AI applications across Asia. The article highlighted a major partnership between Yotta Data Services and Gorilla Technology to deploy thousands of GPUs across India, supported by the government’s “Mission India AI” initiative. It noted that with a vast population, over a billion internet users, and rising concerns around data privacy, demand for locally processed and stored data has increased significantly, which in turn strengthens the push for sovereign AI. However, the article noted that key challenges remain, particularly in achieving sustainable returns on investment. It pointed out that high infrastructure costs and uncertain profitability continue to limit enterprise adoption, prompting efforts to lower costs through subsidies and flexible usage models.
