• President Xi Orders All-Out Rescue Efforts After Mudslide Hits China-Nepal Border Port: Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out search and rescue efforts after a mudslide struck Gyirong border port in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. Xi called for the evacuation of residents at risk, timely medical treatment for the injured and measures to minimise casualties. He also stressed the need to strengthen monitoring and early-warning systems, ensure scientific rescue operations and prevent secondary disasters. Xi noted that China is in a critical period for flood control and urged local authorities to prepare for extreme situations, strengthen flood and typhoon prevention measures, and address potential risks and hazards. Premier Li Qiang also called for immediate verification of the number of missing and affected people and intensified rescue and relief efforts. He instructed the Foreign Ministry to coordinate with relevant countries and share information on the response. Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing led officials to the site to guide rescue operations, while Xizang authorities mobilised personnel for ongoing search and rescue efforts.
  
  
• Chinese Commercial Space Firm Exports Satellite to Thailand: Chinese commercial space company GalaxySpace completed the development, launch and on-orbit delivery of a satellite for Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), marking the first export of a complete satellite by a Chinese commercial space company to a Southeast Asian country. A Long March-6C carrier rocket launched seven satellites from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in Shanxi Province, with three developed by GalaxySpace, including the Lingzhi-09 Thailand CubeSat. The satellite will collect remote sensing data to support Thailand’s land, agricultural and ecological monitoring, while also contributing to aerospace education at local universities. GISTDA Executive Chairman Phee Choosri described the partnership as a significant step in China-Thailand space cooperation, particularly in promoting the exchange of aerospace knowledge and expertise. GalaxySpace said it plans to use the partnership as an opportunity to expand the reach of its space technologies to more countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
  
  
• China and India Reach 8-Point Consensus in 25th Boundary Talks: The 25th round of talks between China and India’s special representatives on the boundary question was held in Beijing, with the two sides reaching an eight-point consensus, according to Xinhua, citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry. China’s Special Representative Wang Yi and India’s Special Representative and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held discussions on the boundary question and reaffirmed commitments to maintaining peace and stability along the border. The two sides agreed to advance consultations on a framework for resolving the boundary issue based on the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles. They also agreed to establish a demarcation expert group and a working group on border management and control. China and India further agreed to strengthen existing diplomatic and military communication mechanisms, establish two new military hotlines and add two general-level meeting points. Both sides welcomed progress in cross-border cooperation, including the reopening of three boundary trade markets and expanded pilgrimage arrangements. They also agreed to continue discussions on cross-border rivers and hydrological information sharing. The 26th round of talks is scheduled to be held in India in 2027.
  
  
• State Council Reports Steady Progress in Consolidating Poverty Alleviation Gains: China’s poverty alleviation achievements have been steadily consolidated and expanded, with rural incomes continuing to rise, according to a State Council report submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress for deliberation. The report said per capita disposable income among rural residents in counties removed from the poverty list increased from 12,588 yuan in 2020 to 18,627 yuan in 2025, representing average annual growth of 8.2 per cent. It also highlighted improvements in rural infrastructure, public services and development conditions, alongside a narrowing gap with other regions. Industrial and employment assistance has been strengthened, with more than 32 million people who were lifted out of poverty now employed, according to the report. However, it acknowledged continued challenges, including the risk of some people falling back into poverty and weak development foundations in less-developed areas. China further plans to integrate regular assistance into its broader rural revitalisation strategy, focusing on people at risk of returning to poverty and underdeveloped regions. The approach will combine development-oriented assistance with social security measures to safeguard basic livelihoods.
  
  
• China Sets AI, 6G and Green Industry Priorities for 2026-2030: China plans to accelerate industrial upgrading during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), with priorities including artificial intelligence (AI), 6G, green manufacturing and new energy vehicles (NEVs). The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said China has formulated nearly 200 key AI standards and will further integrate AI across the industrial chain. The country will also accelerate 6G trials and standards development in preparation for future commercial deployment. China plans to establish 500 zero-carbon factories during the period and promote the high-quality development of the intelligent connected NEV industry, including by improving insurance policies and reducing maintenance costs. The country will also support emerging industries such as integrated circuits, aerospace, biomedicine, novel energy storage and intelligent robotics, while promoting future industries including quantum technology, hydrogen energy, brain-computer interfaces and embodied intelligence. Officials said China will strengthen support for high-quality enterprises and SMEs while advancing next-generation communication and computing networks. In 2025, China’s core AI industries exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan in value, with more than 6,200 AI enterprises nationwide.

Weibo Users React to Yin Yuzhen and Sykos’s Environmental Friendship: A Weibo post has gone viral discussing the decades-long friendship between Chinese sand-control hero Yin Yuzhen and her American friend Ronald Sakorsky, whom Yin calls “Sykos.” The post recounted how Sakorsky learned about Yin’s desertification-control efforts through CCTV in 1999 and donated $5,000 to support her tree-planting work. It said Yin reportedly kept $1 as a memento and used the rest to buy seedlings. According to the post, the two first met in Maowusu in 2000, despite not speaking the same language. It also added that more than two decades later, they reunited and planted three seedlings together, highlighting their enduring friendship and shared environmental commitment. Their story sparked widespread emotional reactions among Weibo users, who praised Yin and Sakorsky for their perseverance, environmental efforts and cross-border friendship. Some described their story as a symbol of human kindness, while others admired their dedication to combating desertification and suggested turning their story into a film. One user commented, “They are all worthy of admiration and respect.” Another wrote, “The world is one, and it should be this beautiful!” Several users also praised Yin’s decades-long commitment to greening the desert and Sakorsky’s early support for her work.

Guancha Discusses India’s Push to Attract Japanese Investment: According to a Guancha article, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is visiting Japan with a 200-member business delegation, the largest Indian business delegation to the country so far. The article noted that Goyal has urged Japanese companies to double their businesses in India, highlighting opportunities in manufacturing, semiconductors, AI, clean energy, automobiles, financial services and start-ups. It emphasised that India is also seeking to position itself as a production and export base for Japanese firms, leveraging its expanding free trade agreement network and preferential market access. The article further noted that Goyal promoted India’s business environment, stressing protections for intellectual property and data, amid increasing pressure to attract foreign investment. Concerns over India’s business environment and the sustainability of its high-growth trajectory have weighed on investor sentiment, it stated. Referring to a Bank of America survey in August, the article highlighted that India had become Asia’s least-favoured stock market, while its equities have underperformed major global markets this year. It also underscored that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has undertaken overseas visits to promote trade, investment and economic ties.
