On November 17, 2025, the Department of East Asian Studies at University of Delhi hosted a thought-provoking seminar featuring Senior Research Associates Ratish Mehta and Rahul Karan Reddy from ORCA who held the seminar on their respective special reports. Titled “Chinese Democracy in Theory and Practice” and “Decoding Ten Years of Anti-Corruption Data in China,” the event engaged the academic community with new perspectives on contemporary Chinese politics.
In his session, Mr. Mehta explored how narratives surrounding democracy are constructed and interpreted within Chinese political thought, analyzing shifting rhetoric and the Communist Party’s evolving stance on governance. His multidisciplinary approach highlighted connections between domestic developments and China’s broader role in global affairs.
Mr. Reddy’s lecture drew from his in-depth data-driven research on a decade of anti-corruption investigations in China. By presenting trends, patterns, and case analyses, he emphasized the importance of quantitative methodologies in unpacking critical issues within Chinese governance and political reforms.
Chaired by Professor Ranjana Mukhopadhyaya and convened by Dr. Prachi Aggarwal and facilitated by Dr. Rajeev Ranjan, the seminar fostered lively interdisciplinary discussion. Participants were encouraged to rethink established research paradigms, integrate innovative analytical frameworks, and engage critically with emerging studies from East Asia.
The event, brought together scholars, students, and experts to debate ongoing challenges and opportunities in the study of contemporary China, strengthening collaborative dialogue within India’s academic community.
